Budgetball on the Mall 2010: Philander Smith College earns Championship!

Brought to you by The Peter G. Peterson Foundation and the National Academy of Public Administration

Budgetball on the Mall 2010 took place on Friday, May 21st on the grounds of the Washington Monument!

This year, Philander Smith College took home the Championship. In 2009, they were the runner ups, and they came to win it this year. They amassed a Budgetbuck surplus of 276 Budgetbucks during the course of the tournament. So, even though they scored fewer points than their opponents on the field in the finals, they were given a huge boost after Budgetbucks were converted and snatched fiscal victory from the jaws of defeat.

Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner stopped by to cheer on teams, and his appearance gave the Treasury team 'Stress Tested' a boost in the semifinals against Central State. But Central State came back, and advanced to the finals against Philander Smith. Philander Smith had been quietly winning games on their side of the brackets, and they used last year's lesson about Budgetbuck conversion as the cornerstone of their strategy in 2010. They consistently took sacrifices and were still able to defeat opponents and it paid off in the finals!
